Demand Transparency: Call on Secretary Galvin to Release Critical Information on $1 Billion Migrant Crisis Spending

The Healey-Driscoll Administration has kept Massachusetts residents in the dark regarding the allocation of nearly $1 billion spent on the migrant crisis, as well as the details of over 600 “serious incidents” reported in taxpayer-funded housing. Despite our repeated calls for transparency, the Governor and Lieutenant Governor have refused to release this crucial information.

We urge you to join us in calling on Acting Governor, Secretary Bill Galvin, to take action. Secretary Galvin is the longest-serving executive in Massachusetts and at times has had an independent voice. Now, he has the opportunity to uphold his commitment to the people of the Commonwealth by releasing the unredacted information on vendor payments and the serious incidents within state shelters.

Contact Secretary Galvin’s office today and ask him to ensure transparency and accountability in the use of public funds. Massachusetts residents deserve nothing less.

Here’s what we know:

  • Details surrounding taxpayer-funded spending on the migrant crisis have been deliberately concealed from the public.
  • Nearly 8,000 migrant families have been housed in facilities that are projected to cost taxpayers over $1 billion in FY 2024.
  • The appropriation of this $1 billion sum remains undisclosed to the public.
  • The Healey-Driscoll Administration has withheld critical information, including the identities of vendors involved and the amounts they are being paid.
  • Investigative journalists uncovered that a hotel in Methuen charged the state $165 per night, despite 330 documented health violations by local inspectors.
  • Providers managing taxpayer-funded shelters have reported approximately 600 “serious incidents,” many requiring police, fire, or medical intervention.
  • Details of these serious incidents remain redacted, with the only publicly known case being an alleged rape of a minor, revealed by the Rockland police department.
  • The Healey-Driscoll Administration has refused to provide further information to the public.
